Birdie belongs to the awesome Katie, owner and boss lady #1 at the Plannery. (Go check out her website – I love her logo.  I’ll wait.)  Katie contacted me about commissioning this picture for her husband’s birthday, as Birdie is his happy hunting companion.  Here’s what Katie has to say about this sweet pup:

Birdie is a 2 year old black lab. Since it was the first dog I was ever going to own (yes, I grew up a cat person), and my husband wanted to train and use her as a dog for hunting water fowl, we decided to go with a local reputable breeder. We got Birdie when I was pregnant – with the idea that at my husband would have at least 7 months or so to train her before the baby came! It turned out to be a good decision and Birdie is the absolute sweetest with our daughter, Tallulah. I’m so glad they’re growing up together.

Birdie loves retrieving (and had a great successful first hunt this past winter), swimming at my in-laws lake house, and cuddling on the sofa. She also converted me to a dog person 🙂 My husband kicked-a$$ in the dog training department and this commission was a way of saying thank you to him for all the hard work he put into this beautiful dog. She’s an absolute sweetheart and so well behaved.

As a bonus, Katie sent over these adorable photos of Birdie and the family, taken by Sarah Williams of This Rad Love.  I’ll let you guess which one is my favorite.

Thanks for checking out this week’s pet portrait! As with all of our pet portraits, 10% of the portrait fee was donated to Lost Dog and Cat Rescue to help more animals find their families.
